Since 2013 I've been a senior conservation ecologist at the Field Museum in Chicago, USA. For 20 years before that I worked as a plant collector, field ecologist, editor, blogger, and consultant on science and conservation projects in Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil; from 2003 to 2008 I ran a remote field station in Madre de Dios, Peru. I've authored and co-authored more than 100 papers and book chapters on Amazonian ecology and conservation, and edited 16 books. I've also published a number of non-scientific essays and stories in Orion, Nautilus, and DoubleTake.
I love talking about tropical rainforests with a broad range of audiences, and I'm happy to speak in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Please contact me using the form below.
